Invisalign is one of the most comfortable and discreet ways to straighten your smile. Suitable for teenagers and adults, Invisalign can correct crowded, overlapped, and crooked teeth along with promoting a healthy occlusion (bite). Our orthodontist offers this unique teeth-straightening system to help patients achieve beautiful and healthy smiles comfortably and discreetly.
How Invisalign Works
The Invisalign teeth straightening method involves wearing clear plastic retainers called “aligners”. These aligners are custom fitted for each patient’s mouth. Each set is worn for two or three weeks and then replaced with a new, slighter tighter set. Worn in succession, Invisalign applies gentle force, similar to wire braces, to shift teeth over time.
Advantages of Invisalign
Because these aligners are made of soft, pliable plastic, patients typically experience more comfort when compared to traditional braces. This is because there are no sharp edges or metal brackets to scrape against gums and the insides of cheeks. Since Invisalign aligners are removable, patients can brush and floss their teeth as they normally would. The aligners are also removed during meals so that patients can enjoy their favorite foods without worrying about crumbs and debris getting stuck in between orthodontic appliances.
Special Considerations for Invisalign Wearers
For patients to get the most benefit from this system, they must commit to wearing their aligners all day, except when brushing, flossing, and eating. Since the aligners will be placed back in the mouth after meals, patients should brush their teeth thoroughly after eating. Invisalign trays should be rinsed out with clear water as well to help promote a healthy, clean mouth. When not worn, aligners should be stored in a sanitary carrying case rather being left on countertops or anywhere germs may lurk.
