Adolescents and teens that have experienced oral problems due to crooked teeth may now enjoy having their smile corrected with Invisalign Teen, a series of clear aligners that will treat cases from minor problems to more complex issues.
Over bite, under bite, cross bite, overcrowding, or to close spaces between teeth, Invisalign Teen has been improved to treat the majority of dental problems without the disadvantages of metal braces:
- Invisalign aligners are clear making this form of treatment virtually invisible.
- Metal brackets can be abrasive to the soft tissues of the mouth – with the soft plastic aligners, there is nothing hard to rub against cheeks, gums or tongue.
- Aligners are removable – this means the patient can eat an unrestricted diet plus take the aligners out to perform their daily oral maintenance of brushing and flossing.
- Six month check-ups are more thorough as teeth are cleaned and examined without being hampered by braces permanently in place.
Treatment will begin with a consultation with the orthodontist. To determine the patient will qualify for Invisalign, x-rays, photographs and dental impressions will be taken. The Invisalign laboratory will use these tools to fabricate a series of aligners using 3-D digital technology.

At the onset of treatment, the patient will be advised that wearing the aligners every day for a minimum of twenty to twenty-two hours is required for the desired results in the specified time frame. Each case is different … treatment can take anywhere from six months to a couple of years depending on the severity of the malocclusion.
The aligners will be updated approximately every two weeks to keep the teeth shifting consistently to their correct placement. Exams will be needed with the orthodontist periodically to make sure the straightening process is staying on track.
The advantages of straight teeth are more than just aesthetic. Of course, a smile makeover is important but having straight teeth is advantageous to maintaining good oral health. Teeth that are crooked harbor areas where bacteria can grow as these areas are difficult to reach with a toothbrush or floss. This can help eliminate dental decay and the potential for gum disease.
Caring for Invisalign aligners is very easy. They can be brushed at the same time teeth are cleaned … this makes your teeth straightening program as easy and efficient as possible.
